Dust cover, or ‘rubber boot,’ is a critical part of chassis system, protecting a ball joint from damaging substances; New MOT regulations will fail cracked, split and/or missing dust covers.

— In compliance with new United Kingdom Ministry of Transport (MOT) regulations, Delphi (NYSE: DLPH)
is advising MOT testers and technicians to help ensure a quality repair by replacing the entire ball joint component where the rubber boot is split, cracked, damaged or missing. The new regulation directs testers to fail a vehicle’s MOT test certificate if a ball joint boot is missing or no longer prevents the entry of dirt, water and other damaging substances.
